It is genuine cocoa and that is what the Spanish called it when they arrived in Mexico. It is grown in Peru, Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala, Trinidad, Jamaica, Mexico and the Caribbean. It is a recognized high quality cocoa, with low tannin content, reserved for the production of the best chocolates. The grain has a thin shell, soft and little aromatic. An example of the Creole variety is the Ocumare cocoa from the Ocumare de la Costa Valley, Venezuela.
